An adventurer’s dream is a simple one, be curious; challenge everything, ask questions, explore the unknown.

The complexities of making that dream a reality lie on the shoulders of the crew, designers, and engineers, whose job is to create the tools necessary to bring the concept to fruition. That’s why extreme explorer, Victor Vescovo, who has already climbed to the highest peak on each of the seven continents, entrusted Triton Submarines to design and engineer a vessel that would thrust him into the deepest points of the Earth’s five oceans, a feat known as the Five Deeps Expedition. ECO speaks with Triton President Patrick Lahey, expedition leader Rob McCallum of EYOS, and lead scientist Alan Jamieson from the University of Newcastle, as they reveal their hopes for the expedition, the challenges they face, and the lasting importance of their efforts to descend into Earth’s last, and deepest, frontier.
