First Nacelle for Rentel Offshore Wind Farm Rolls Out

The first complete D7 nacelle built by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in their new production facility in Cuxhaven, was rolled out of the manufacturing plant on the 15 February 2018.

A nacelle is a cover that houses all of the generating components in a wind turbine. In this new facility, the different parts of the nacelle are assembled in separate production lines for the generator, hub and back end. They are then ‘clicked’ together at the end of the assembly lines, after which rotational and system tests are conducted, all indoor in this giant factory. This nacelle will now go into storage close to the load-out ramp where it will be conditioned and await the first shipment to the REBO Site in Ostend, planned for early March 2018.

‘We are thrilled to see this first nacelle finalised, and ready to be installed in our windfarm. Siemens Gamesa has done a great job in building and starting up a new factory and meanwhile producing our wind turbines of which this is the first of 42’, Nathalie Oosterlinck CEO of Rentel NV.

All offshore wind turbine components such as nacelles, blades, towers and electrical modules, will be shipped to the REBO Site in Ostend (Belgium) where additional assembly activities (tower assembly) and load-out on the installation vessel takes place. Installation activities are planned to start early May 2018 to be finished in September 2018. The entire wind farm shall be fully operational by the end of 2018.

Green Energy for 300,000 households
The Rentel wind farm is currently under construction. It will contain 42 wind turbines and provide green energy to 300,000 households annually. The wind turbines are expected to produce green energy from mid-2018. The wind energy of Rentel contributes to the Belgian climate objectives 2020 and the future energy supply.
