IMarEST Offers Complimentary Membership for Marine Students

One of the IMarEST's key goals is to inspire, support, and develop the future generation of marine professionals and the Institute is therefore delighted to be celebrating the 2015 International Youth Day.

IMarEST seeks to encourage and engage with students globally across the marine engineering, science and technology disciplines, preparing them for a successful career in the marine sector. IMarEST recognises the important part it can play in a student's journey (where the term 'student' refers to undergraduates, postgraduates, apprentices and cadets) and is therefore delighted to be offering complimentary student membership (SIMarEST) to all students in a marine-related discipline for the duration of their studies.

This membership will give students access to a number of valuable benefits as well as putting them on the path to gaining professional qualifications such as becoming Chartered.

Engaging young marine engineers

With an increasing marine engineering-related skills gap not only in the UK but also in Germany, Switzerland and the US, the need for new, innovative engineers has never been greater.

To inspire and focus young engineers, the IMarEST will host the 3rd European International Submarine Race in the summer of 2016.

Following the success of the initial race in 2012, which set the world record for the fastest human-powered submarine, the race will return next year! University students from across the world will be invited to form teams to design and build an innovative, yet efficient human-powered submarine. The submarines are designed and built from scratch and put through their paces on a unique slalom course against the clock!

More details will follow at www.imarest.org, but you can watch the video from the 2014 race in the meantime.
