Okeanus Delivers ECO 2000 All-Electric Winch System to MBARI

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute will use the winch to assist with future oceanographic missions.

Okeanus Science & Technology (Okeanus), an established marine equipment and engineering services provider, today announced delivery of the Okeanus model ECO 2000 all-electric winch to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI).

“We are pleased to provide MBARI with our all-electric ECO 2000 system to enhance their wide variety of oceanographic missions and to meet the resulting demands of operations aboard vessels of opportunity,” said Ted Brockett, Managing Director of Products and Engineering at Okeanus. “We value MBARI as a long-standing customer and are confident the ECO 2000 winch system will provide reliable, continuous service to fulfill their project goals.”

The ECO 2000 winch is a compact, economical, highly transportable winch designed for a wide variety of oceanographic applications such as water sample profiling, CTD, towing, bottom grab sampling or other similar operations. The ECO 2000 features an all-electric drive, 100 percent duty cycle dynamic braking, diamond screw levelwind with integrated sheave and local / remote control stations providing infinitely variable speed control. The winch is equipped with lifting eyes to allow rapid installation and removal which is ideal for operations aboard small vessels. The Okeanus ECO winch series also features versatile performance and power option packages tailored to meet customer safe working load and line speed requirements.

The winch assembly delivered to MBARI provides a bare drum safe working load of 3,336 N (340 Kg, 750 lbs) at a bare drum line speed of 0.50 m/s (30 mpm, 100 fpm). The winch drum is capable of holding 457 meters (1,500 feet) of 10 mm (0.394 in) outside diameter cable. Overall dimensions are 1,320 mm (52 in) width, 1,346 mm (53 in) length and 1,092 mm (43 in) height. The winch is driven with a 2.2 kW (3 HP) electric motor requiring electrical input power of 220 VAC, single phase, 50 / 60 Hz.
