The Everglades Foundation Statement on Final Passage of
FY 2021-22 State Budget

Eric Eikenberg, CEO of The Everglades Foundation, today released the following statement regarding the final fiscal year 2021-22 state budget passed by the Florida Legislature that included $342.72 million for Everglades restoration.

“The final budget passed by the Florida Legislature includes important continued funding for Everglades restoration, and I want to commend everyone involved in the budget process for including $342.72 million for the restoration of America’s Everglades.

“This continued funding could not have come at a more important time, as we’re seeing toxic blue-green algae showing up in areas of our state, reminiscent of the summer of 2016. Everglades restoration is the solution to this, and the funding in this budget is critical to the forward momentum we have to ultimately store, clean and move more water south to where it belongs.

“We look forward to Governor DeSantis, who remains a steadfast champion and advocate of our Everglades, signing the budget into law.”
