Job Opportunity: Program Coordinator of Plastic Free Oceans at Ocean Wise

Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager of the Plastics Program, the Program Coordinator will work closely with the Plastic Free Oceans team to support, grow, and strengthen the Ocean Wise Plastic Program. In addition, the coordinator's responsibilities will include overseeing relationships with program partners, supporting data collection and analysis, and communicating progress. This position is a contract position until March 31st, 2021. The successful candidate will work remotely and will be based in Canada.

Key Accountabilities

Expanding the impact of the Ocean Wise (OW) Plastics Free Oceans Programs by supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new partners as well as maintaining relationships with current partners:

  • Working collaboratively with the wider Plastic Free Oceans Team (PFO) and Ocean Wise Seafood Team (OWS) to research and identify potential partners, acting as the first point of contact and facilitating the onboarding of these partners into the program. This includes sharing information, regular communication via email or phone, conducting plastic audits, providing resources, and training, and leading all administrative tasks necessary to include the partner in the program;
  • Providing continuous support to existing partners, in collaboration with the wider PFO and OWS team as appropriate, in the form of regular communications, support, advice, progress reviews, promotions, and check-ins;
  • Supporting the continuous development of the program and materials, analyzing reports and collating feedback from partners, identifying common issues and opportunities for improvement;
  • Assisting with the delivery and implementation of collaborative communications strategies;
  • Acting as an ambassador and raising awareness of the programs, the issues it is tackling, the benefits of participating, and sharing the impacts and overall achievements.

Provides a key role in the administration and operation of the Plastic Free Oceans program and contributes to the continuous improvement of programs and processes by:

  • Contributing to the PFO strategy and work plan, both as designated, but also in areas of interest and expertise;
  • Maintaining the PFO calendar and stakeholder map as well as completing research and benchmarking as required;
  • Supporting program evaluation and tracking progress against the PFO strategy and targets;
  • Assisting with the ongoing maintenance of program websites and social media assets;
  • Supporting grant applications and preparation of impact reports for internal and external audiences;
  • Compiling partner reports and ensuring records are detailed, accurate, and current;
  • Keeping track of partner progress against commitments and engagement;
  • Coordinating the delivery of invoices and collection of data related to fee payments from partners and ensuring payment through follow-ups;
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive working relationships;
  • Assisting with document creation, report writing, contract management, presentations and support material, and process improvement, as required for the day-to-day operation of the PFO programs;
  • Providing support toward achieving collective goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Business or Marketing, Life or Environmental Sciences, or a related field of study
  • 2-4 years of experience in a sustainability/conservation program, or program support;
  • Experience building successful relationships and coordinating multi-stakeholder program activities

Skills and competencies

  • Strong interest in, and an understanding of the circular economy principles, plastic pollution issues, and ocean conservation;
  • Confident, positive, and persuasive communication skills (verbal/written);
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills;
  • Demonstrable experience creating professional reports, proposals, and presentations;
  • Skilled in research and data analysis;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work productively and efficiently with minimal supervision;
  • Confident in the development and deployment of communication and marketing content;
  • Ability to be calm and flexible to problem solve in a fast-paced environment;
  • Self-motivated and happy to work both independently with minimal supervision and as an effective team member;
  • Ability to multi-task with keen attention to detail;
  • Active demonstration and passion for the organization’s values, code of conduct, and mission.
