Ocean Career: Biologist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is seeking a Biologist/Analyst at the BI-02 and PC-02 levels to conduct analyses, participate and organize consultations with various partners, draft documents and provide management recommendations in relation to the application of different regulatory and protection programs.

Duties

Regional management of the ecosystem management includes 3 programs:

  • the marine planning and conservation;
  • the species at risk management;
  • the fish and fish habitat protection.

Work Environment

Regional management of the Ecosystem Management of Fisheries and Oceans Canada has a mandate to ensure the conservation and protection of aquatic ecosystems, freshwater and marine, the Quebec region by the implementation of policies that flow from federal laws. We are located at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Mont-Joli, at the edge of the St. Lawrence estuary. Essential Qualifications

EDUCATION

BI-02: A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with spécialization in biology. (Or in the process of obtaining such a degree by summer 2022 – Will be required at the time of appointment)

PC-02: A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable** specialization in geography, environment or all other disciplines relevant to the position. (Or in the process of obtaining such a degree by summer 2022 – Will be required at the time of appointment)

Note

* The term “degree” refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities.
** Courses for the specialization must be acceptable and have been taken from a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily as part of a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the analysis, the summary and the production of reports using data or information related to research in the natural environment;
  • Experience in consultation or mobilizing partners* on issues related to natural resources management.

*Here is a list of partners: other business lines within your own organization, other government organizations (federal, provincial or municipal), Aboriginal groups, non-governmental organizations, academia, industry, etc.

Other Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in consultation or engagement with Aboriginal organizations;
  • Experience related to the marine planning and conservation or species at risk management or fish and fish habitat protection.

Various language requirements

  • French essential
  • Bilingual BBB / BBB

*Due to the unique evaluation process of language proficiency, this essential qualification is required upon appointment only. It is therefore the candidate’s responsibility to inform the person in charge of the selection process if he/she obtains the linguistic requirements after the pool has been established. Also, a person who initially failed linguistic testing could be reintroduced into the pool of qualified candidates during the pool’s validity period if, for example, he/she is assessed again through another selection process or following linguistic training.
