Ocean Career: CCMAR Data Scientist

The Algarve Centre for Marine Sciences (CCMAR) opens a call for a Data Scientist.

The Algarve Centre of Marine Sciences is one of the foremost marine science research centers in Portugal, classified Excellent in successive evaluations promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology, and gathering experts in the fields of marine biology, ecology, oceanography, environmental sciences, biotechnology, fisheries, and aquaculture. With a multidisciplinary team, well-equipped facilities and laboratories, CCMAR-Algarve develops activities that fall into five different core areas: Research, Training, Business, Society, and Collaboration.

Duties:

  • Engage in national and European research projects (Horizon Europe Program) and contribute to research infrastructures for biological data and Open Science (ELIXIR, EOSC);
  • Collaborate with the institutional structures and departments of CCMAR in developing software and IT solutions and contribute to the development of data management policies that optimize internal processes and enhance the offer of technology and knowledge solutions for the Centre.
  • Develop and maintain applications and support processes for CCMAR's research infrastructures, and technological and scientific platforms;
  • Develop and maintain applications and processes to support service provision and the commercialization of knowledge and technology;
  • Provide bioinformatic support to researchers and students including the development of training curricula;
  • Further the development of the scientific strategy of CCMAR.

Start date and duration: The contract is expected to start from May/June 2023 for a period no longer than is necessary for the execution of the work plan.

Workplace: The workplace is CCMAR (Gambelas Campus of the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal).
