Ocean Career: Fisheries Scientist at Fishtek Marine

Fishtek Marine is a global leader in sustainable fishing technologies and bycatch mitigation.

We develop, research, and implement technologies that reduce bycatch and improve sustainability within the fishing industry. We are recruiting two experienced project managers to our growing fisheries team to oversee exciting research projects developing innovative new fishing methods and bycatch mitigation technologies.

The projects are located in UK and further afield and it is likely that some travel in the UK and Internationally will be required to effectively manage these projects.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting & managing sea trials
  • Liaising with fisheries stakeholders and dissemination of relevant project information
  • Research and information gathering on fishing activities in relation to specific projects
  • Project management including accounting and reporting
  • Analysis of fisheries data
  • Report production
  • Liaise with external colleagues and build relationships with clients

Essential Requirements:

  • BSc in a relevant subject and at least 5 years project management experience, ideally in a fisheries related field
  • Experience in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders (Fishers, academics, authorities, NGOs)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience writing technically competent reports
  • Good organisational and data management skills
  • Ability to prioritise and adapt to a changing workload

Location

This role is based at Fishtek’s head office in Totnes, Devon. The company operates a flexible work at home/office-based hybrid system, with remote working considered for the right candidate
