Ocean Career: Project Coordinator at MBARI

This position provides project support to the NSF-funded Global Ocean Biogeochemistry Array (GO-BGC) project. This person supports team members both within MBARI and at the project partner institutions.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating weekly virtual project team and executive committee meetings
  • Overseeing large group meeting and workshop logistics, including participant travel
  • Assisting in preparation of reports for the National Science Foundation
  • Soliciting information on project publications as well as gathering relevant content for social media channels and public website
  • Assisting with maintenance of the project’s internal website
  • Maintaining and archiving project documentation

College degree or equivalent education / experience, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets, and/or similar programs is required. Experience in science administration is strongly preferred. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Project (or equivalent) and web publishing applications such as Google Sites and WordPress is highly desired.

Candidates must be detail-oriented, able to work independently to carry out project tasks, and willing and able to learn new software. Schedule flexibility may occasionally be required to accommodate collaboration with project participants in multiple time zones. The project coordinator must be able to appropriately handle sensitive information and work cooperatively with diverse groups of people.

Note – This is a term position, renewed annually up to five years, depending on job performance and continued funding.
