Ocean Career: Research Assistant at the Marie Biological Laboratory Ecosystems Center

The Marie Biological Laboratory (MBL) Ecosystems Center seeks a recent college graduate to join our biogeochemistry group as a Research Assistant I (RAI).

The RA will participate in studies of the deep ocean flux as part of the Oceanic Flux Program time-series. Additionally, the RA will participate in a research project to evaluate plastic degradation in the deep ocean. Specific duties include assistance with general laboratory activities, sample processing and chemical analyses of deep ocean sediment trap material, and of plastic substrates that have been incubated in the deep ocean. The RA will also assist in data analysis and results dissemination activities, and may participate on oceanographic research cruises off Bermuda.

The start date of this position is expected to be October 17, 2022 or later. Per MBL policy, all non-exempt new employees are subject to four month probationary period.

Qualifications:

This is an entry level position, requiring a B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Ecology, or related field. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated aptitude in chemistry and math. Previous field experience in marine or environmental studies is a plus.
