Opportunity: Marine Science and Technology Editor

Assistant Editor

TSC Publishing (TSC) is an entrepreneurial publishing company focused on marine science and technology.

Our digital and print publications cover applications that include offshore oil and gas, robotics and autonomous vehicles, marine sound, environmental services, and the health of the oceans, coastal areas and constituent marine life. TSC seeks an Assistant Editor to join its enthusiastic team of editing, production, and marketing personnel. The Assistant Editor will serve as primary editor of news content for an established electronic newsletter focused on the offshore oil and gas industry and its related website.

Location and Salary

Full-time position located in TSC’s corporate headquarters in Stuart, FL. Base pay of $40,000 annually, negotiable depending on qualifications. Benefits package includes paid vacation/sick time/holidays, 401(k) plan, health/dental/life insurance, and profit-sharing plan.

Essential Functions

  • Review news releases submitted by outside sources, select and edit content for publishing in digital media
  • Solicit relevant original content from knowledgeable industry members
  • Develop relationships with contributing authors and freelancers and manage their contribution of feature articles
  • Write articles, features and executive profiles; some will be based upon interviews
  • Edit content for credibility, quality, grammar, length and advertising-related considerations
  • Coordinate with circulation department and advertising sales team to maximize readership and revenue generation opportunities related to content production
  • Attend industry-specific conferences to represent publications, seeking new authors and supporting the advertising sales team
  • Coordinate with social media team to promote publications and expand market presence
  • Work collaboratively with editorial and production staff of affiliated publications regarding content

Essential Skills/Tools

  • Exceptional spelling ability and understanding of rules of grammar
  • Excellent reading comprehension
  • Very strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent time-management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet publication deadlines
  • Familiarity with relevant publishing-related software packages and current social media platforms

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong preference for background in ocean engineering, offshore energy, marine science, subsea technology or similar technical or scientific discipline; degree in a related field or in professional writing may be considered if combined with ocean energy, marine technology or marine environmental science experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience writing and editing content with a preference for experience related to scientific or technical publications
