The International Conference for YOUNG Marine Researchers ICYMARE – Networking on Eye-Level

The International Conference for YOUNG Marine Researchers - ICYMARE is a bottom-up initiative of the German-based Bremen Society for Natural Sciences NWV. It is solely based on volunteer work and offers a powerful and inspiring international set-up for an excellent network opportunity and some first conference experience.

No matter if you are a Bachelor, Master or PhD candidate, ICYMARE invites everybody to present their research to an enthusiastic and dynamic audience with an atmosphere of being among friends. In 2021, the ICYMARE initiative consists of several projects of which this year’s edition of the annual conference, ICYMARE 2021 BERLIN, will be biggest event.

The Virtual ICYMARE 2021 BERLIN

ICYMARE 2021 BERLIN will take place from 21 to 24 September 2021. For quite some time, the organizers were optimistic to be able to meet in person in Berlin. However, these times once again ask for a lot of adaption and the annual ICYMARE conference will take place online. This conference welcomes early career marine researchers from all over the world to become part of the ICYMARE family and their amazing scientific network. Everybody can get some first conference experience and start building their own personal and international network.

Abstracts for this complimentary event can be submitted now and research can be presented online as a talk or poster in one of the 20 sessions of ICYMARE 2021 BERLIN listed on the ICYMARE homepage. Have a look and decide to which session your presentation fits best.

After your submission, the session hosts of the individual sessions will evaluate the abstracts and will select presentations for ICYMARE 2021 BERLIN based on objective criteria.

Everybody can attend the online ICYMARE 2021 BERLIN conference as a listener without a presentation, can advertise their very own project during the project pitches or engage in a workshop or in the social events. There are lots of opportunities to get involved.

The Online Forum and the Photo Competition

ICYMARE is more than the big annual conference. As a lesson from the first virtual conference in 2020, the ICYMARE Online Forum was launched in the beginning of 2021. Here, marine early career researchers are invited to host and moderate a session on their research topics, which can be narrower compared to the conference. One Online Forum can host up to six presenters and always ends with an encouraging discussion among all presenters and listeners.

Additionally, ICYMARE published its first Photo Competition in 2021. Marine early career researchers are welcome to submit photos of their research, which will not only be judged in the competitions but which will also find their way into an ICYMARE Photo Exhibition, showcasing the work of marine early career researchers.

ICYMARE is for everyone - get involved!

ICYMARE is organized in a bottom-up fashion – from young marine researchers for young marine researchers. Thereby, it completely depends on supports from sponsors and partners.
