Trump Loses Battle to Block Scottish Offshore Wind Farm

The United Kingdom Supreme Court has dismissed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s appeal of a lower court's ruling allowing the Scottish government's ap-proval of a proposed wind farm near Trump’s Scotland golf resort to stand.

In a unanimous ruling, the court found that the Scottish ministers' approval of the wind farm was legal under U.K. laws governing the development of energy generators. It will be built in Aberdeen Bay just over 2 miles from the Trump International Golf Links and will include 11 turbines visible from Trump's Scottish resort.

Trump has fought the wind farm's approval since 2013, losing multiple appeals in lower Scotland court.

In a statement released following the ruling, Scotland's former First Minister Alex Salmond, who led the government until 2014, said that Trump “has at best postponed, and at worst jeopardized, a vital £200 million boost for the economy of the northeast of Scotland.”

"The offshore project could have been built by now with Aberdeen benefiting from be-coming the offshore wind research center of Europe — a vital development at a time of rock-bottom oil prices.”

"Given his treatment of Scotland, Scots American are likely to join the ever growing list of people alienated by Trump," Salmond said.

In a statement from Trump’s counsel George Sorial, the Trump Organization said the project "will completely destroy the bucolic Aberdeen Bay and cast a terrible shadow upon the future of tourism for the area."

"History will judge those involved unfavorably and the outcome demonstrates the fool-ish, small-minded and parochial mentality which dominates the current Scottish gov-ernment's dangerous experiment with wind energy," Sorial said, adding Trump would continue to fight the decision in consultation with its lawyers.
