Funding Opportunity: Tagging Bluefin Tuna for ICCAT

Deadline: 8 May 2016

The International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas has issued a tender calling for bids on the tagging bluefin tuna under their their Atlantic-wide research program. This large, wide and intensive tagging program addresses several important biological and ecological topics regarding Atlantic bluefin tuna as well as possibly providing independent estimates of abundance and/or fishing mortality rates. This particular call is for carrying out the first part of the field tagging activities in 2016, and is limited to electronic tagging, focusing on the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the Moroccan traps, and the Sardinian area. The first part of the 2016 tagging shall include about 50 miniPATs, to be implanted in these geographical areas only on bluefin tuna adults. Ideally, biological samples of the tagged dunes shall be collected during the tagging activities.

Scientific institutes, ad hoc consortia, and public or private entities are asked to submit tenders for carrying out the program. Each tend can bid for all, one, or more activities. For detailed contractor requirements, including how to respond, click here.
