Mission Blue Documentary Nominated for Three Emmys

A Netflix documentary exploring the life of oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle has been nominated for three Emmy Awards. The full-length feature documentary, Mission Blue, tells how the former chief scientist at NOAA and renowned explorer fell in love with the oceans and became a champion for their preservation.

The film shares a title with Dr. Earle’s non-profit enterprise, which has a vision of igniting support for a global network of ocean hope spots large enough to protect and restore 20% of the ocean by 2020.

The nominations (all in the News and Documentary category) are for Outstanding Informational Programming, Outstanding Cinematography, and Outstanding Editing.

The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on Monday, September 28th, 2015, at a ceremony at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall in New York City.
