Texas Sea Grant is seeking two Planning Specialists to work on community planning issues and long-term recovery from Hurricane Harvey. One position will be located in Houston and one position will be located in Corpus Christi.
The position requires a master’s degree in planning or closely aligned field with two years of relevant experience working in urban planning, land use planning, or related field. Or, bachelor’s degree in planning or closely aligned field with four years of relevant experience working in urban planning, land use planning, or related field.
Translate research that supports Community Resilience Collaborative efforts within the Healthy Coastal Ecosystems and Resilient Communities and Economies focus areas by partnering with both academia and planning practitioners working along the Texas Coast. Identify pertinent peer-reviewed literature that supports the efforts of Texas Sea Grant Extension as well as meets the needs of coastal communities that lack planning capacity to adequately address coastal issues that impact economies, environments, and communities. Conduct resiliency assessments of coastal communities to assist with the identification of planning needs for coastal communities.
Lead and facilitate the implementation of outreach activities and provide technical assistance that supports the goals of the Community Resilience Collaborative (technical assistance includes but is not limited to: plan, ordinance and regulation review and writing; assistance in geographic information systems; data collection, analysis and interpretation; working with the Texas Target Communities Program and affiliated partners; educating and training Community Planners and Extension Agents; providing hands-on technical assistance to coastal communities; leading the planning processes for communities that lack planning capacity; and networking with Gulf organizations regarding similar efforts, including Gulf Sea Grant and National Estuarine Research Reserve programs.) Duties require operating a motor vehicle to travel to various work locations.
