Satlantic, a Sea-Bird Scientific company, has recently announced the launch of new and improved versions of their popular family of PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) sensors. Among the major improvements with the serial (digital) version are a more powerful controller capable of sampling at speeds of up to 100 Hz, integrated temperature and tilt sensors to support post deployment QA/QC analyses, and user programmable analog voltage signal output (with selectable ranges on either linear or logarithmic scales). All these new features are packaged into smaller and lighter form factors for easier mounting on crowded sensor packages. The new PAR sensor is now available in two versions optimized for the main field applications: a shallow Acetron plastic sensor for profiles to 1000 m depth; a deep titanium version for profiles to 7000 m.
The new PAR sensor now include both analog and digital+analog telemetry for easy integration onto a wide range of sensor platforms, including Sea-Bird’s SBE 911plus, SBE 25plus, and SBE 19plus V2 profiling CTDs.
