Oil Spill India Stresses Prevention and Response

Annual conference emphasizes individual and corporate social responsibility towards the marine environment.

India is at a critical juncture in the development and implementation of a National Oil Spill Response Policy, where ‘synergy’ is crucial for crafting a win-win solution for all stakeholders, which will ultimately ensure effective marine environmental protection. The Oil Spill India (OSI) conference and exhibition provides an industry forum to deliberate and collaborate on response frameworks for oil discharges in the region. As an industry led event, it acts as a forum for governments, regulators, industry, academia, and response organizations to discuss, deliberate, share and learn the best practices, technologies, and experiences of spill management. Launched in 2011, it is unique for being held in India and has become a frontrunner in bringing global experts under one roof.

The fourth edition of this global conference and exhibition will be held 11-12 August 2016 in Mumbai (also known as Bombay), India. The theme this year is Commitment, Synergy, Excellence. At the launch ceremony for this year’s event, Captain Sandeep Kalia, Global Brand Ambassador of OSI 2016 said that he was proud to have support form all sectors of maritime industry and said that in today’s progressive world, we are faced with the dual challenge of developing our economy and protecting the environment. The economic growth and envelopment should not take precedence over protecting the environment. Almost all maritime casualties, he said, regardless of cargo, represent a potential threat to the environment. The challenges faced by the maritime industry globally, with respect to sustainment of the marine environment are common and call for comprehensive prevention, response, and a compensation regime,. Pollution defense, he said, is at the top of the agenda. For more information, click here.
