RGU Shortlisted for Prestigious UK Government Trade Award

Robert Gordon University (RGU) has been shortlisted for a Department for International Trade (DIT) Board of Trade Award for its approach to international business.

The prestigious awards, which celebrate businesses who have shown exceptional innovation, delivered for their local communities, and have championed free trade, were held at Stirling Castle last week.

The award particularly recognized RGU’s work in Colombia. Drawing on its expertise and experience of working both in the North Sea and internationally, RGU has been working very closely with the Colombian Government to consider their skills requirements as the country starts to develop its offshore gas sector.

RGU has a lot of experience in the development of similar skills frameworks, having completed a significant project in Mexico to provide recommendations on how to address the potential skills gap in the Mexican oil and gas industry over the next 15 years, both at graduate and vocational level.

Most recently, RGU carried out a workforce dynamic review for the sector in the North Sea on behalf of OPITO.

The Board of Trade Awards are nominated and selected by Civil Servants from the DIT and recognize businesses which they believe deserve special recognition for their role within the countries they are working. Ten Scottish companies were nominated for the award including RGU, the only University.

Donella Beaton, RGU’s Director of Business Development, who attended the awards ceremony was thrilled that the university was recognized in this way.

“It’s testament, not only to the hard work of the team at RGU but also the ongoing support we have received from the British Embassy in Colombia”, she said.

“The focus has been on building strong relations with the Colombian government and industry as we look to use our knowledge and expertise to help them fulfil their energy sector aspirations.

“Hopefully these relationships can be developed over time, as I would like to think we are just at the start of our journey within Colombia and we look forward to forging even closer links in the country in the near future.”
