Chief Executive, Plymouth Marine Laboratory & PML Applications Ltd (PML Group)

A unique opportunity to lead one of the world’s premier marine science research institutes.

Deadline October 26

The Board of Trustees is seeking to appoint a Chief Executive with proven and recognized leadership abilities gained within a science-driven organization, able to deliver the scientific and business strategy and charitable objects of Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and the commercial strategy of PML Applications Ltd, leading the PML Group forward into the next exciting phase of its development.

As its Chief Executive you will be joining an organization that strives for excellence and delivers far-reaching impact: through its highly-cited scientific papers, the scientific evidence it provides to policy-makers, the work it does collaboratively in supporting developing world countries, the training of the next generation of marine scientists, and also the work it carries out with and on behalf of industry and other customers in the context of PML Applications.

A visionary and passionate advocate for its science, you will bring to PML your high personal standing within the marine and/or environmental sciences. With proven strategic development skills, organizational and people leadership ability, energy and enthusiasm, you will build on and foster an exceptional context and culture, drawing together scientists from different disciplines to work together to help address some of the principal challenges for the marine environment in the 21st century. Your finely-honed organizational development, people and financial management skills will enable you to lead a multi-facetted organization, providing the stimulus, context and environment which will enable the scientists and staff of PML to thrive, whilst representing it externally with its diverse stakeholders, including its principal funders the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) under its umbrella organization, United Kingdom Research & Innovation (UKRI). Commercially-minded, your commitment to PML will make you comfortable in actively nurturing and seeking out partnerships and corporate customers nationally and internationally, and securing new funding streams to complement existing ones, as well as interacting with industry and other members of the user community, ensuring a sustainable future for the PML Group as it moves forward.

An attractive salary, plus performance related bonus, is available commensurate with the level and strategic importance of the post.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to lead an exceptional and ambitious organization working in an area which is of critical importance to society and its future well-being. Carbon-NfP, our retained recruitment consultants, would be delighted to send you the Candidate Brochure and/or to have an informal and confidential telephone conversation about PML and the Chief Executive role.
