Job Alert: Principal Oceanographer Vacancy (UK)

Looking to work and live in the South West? Partrac are on the hunt for a talented Principal Oceanographer to join the South Devon team to help deliver innovative, and challenging oceanographic and marine survey projects.

Partrac, a leading provider of oceanographic survey and consultancy is seeking to recruit a passionate and experienced Principal Oceanographer to be based in their Devon facility. The Principal Oceanographer will be responsible for ensuring quality oceanography is provided to clients through an integrated approach from survey design, instrument selection, calibration strategies, survey methodologies and reporting.

A highly motivated and technical team-player who is methodical, organised, and logical, the successful candidate will have the organisational and interpersonal skills to be able to work on multidisciplinary projects in a small team. You will be degree educated in an oceanographic or allied subject, possess an excellent understanding of a wide range of oceanographic equipment, its limitations, survey techniques and how to ensure that the highest quality of data is obtained from each survey.

Demonstratable experience of Wave buoys, Acoustic current profilers, CTD’s, tide gauges, and suspended sediment sensors is essential. Knowledge of positioning software and RTK is beneficial.

The successful candidate will possess excellent scientific written and verbal communication skills, highly numerate and IT literate with acute attention to detail and a passion for excellence.

As an integral part of the team in delivering projects from inception through to final reporting, with up to 60 days p.a. spent in the field.

A track record of authoring and confidently presenting oceanographic reports and papers to a wide range of clients/stakeholders and the wider oceanographic community would be highly beneficial for the role.

As the team grows the Principal Oceanographer will also support and mentor other team members in their role to ensure high quality oceanography is delivered across our project portfolio.

Minimum requirements:

  • Experienced in writing succinct, accurate method statemens and technical reports.
  • Excellent proof-reading skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and work on multiple projects.
  • The candidate will have a degree in oceanography, marine science, physics, or coastal engineering.

Desired Training and Certifications: –

  • BOSIET/STCW/GWO sea survival certificate.
  • Offshore First-Aid.
  • Offshore Medical.
  • Slinging/Rigging/Banksman training.
  • CSCS Card.

Post Details:

Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.

The position will be at Partrac’s Devon facility.

Start date TBD.
