THE ROLE:

The project management role within emerging technologies requires a different approach to their other engineering projects. Their software engineers and data scientists are researching & developing complex algorithms within autonomy. This includes advanced subject areas such as machine learning, situational awareness and machine vision.

To scope and define tasks without clear parameters is one of the key challenges within this environment. It requires a significant level of clear communication with all stakeholders, managing expectations across all parties so that delivery milestones can be clearly agreed.

As the Project Manager you will be responsible for the planning, management, co-ordination, delivery and financial control of multiple projects.

You will need to demonstrate the ability to work through requirements and agree realistic objectives within this complex research environment. Working closely with customers and subject matter experts.

The position is a mixture of both hands-on project management and detailed project reporting. You will need to demonstrate an exceptional level of organisation skills, along with the ability to engage both internal and external stakeholders.

You will also need to use your positive management style to monitor and occasionally challenge the engineers’ progress and clarify the effort levels required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Essential

  • Proven track record in delivering software, autonomy or technology research-based projects to challenging deadlines.
  • Customer, supplier and internal relationship management.
  • Experience managing projects through full life-cycle.
  • Ability to engage delivery teams using positive management methods.
  • Exceptional organisational skills.
  • Experience collating and editing reports.
  • Ability to decipher complex scopes of work and define requirements.
  • Experience of risk and opportunity management.

Desirable

  • Engineering degree/HND or equivalent.
  • APMP/Prince 2 or equivalent practitioner level accreditation.
  • Experience of industry standard scheduling and planning tools.
