The Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER) is in an exciting period of expansion and invites applications for a Research Scientist position(s) in marine and/or fisheries ecosystems. Requirements for this position include a PhD in marine ecology, biological oceanography, fisheries science or a closely related discipline with related experience in the North Atlantic or similar marine ecosystems.
CFER was created in 2010 with a mandate to conduct research and training on fisheries science of the North Atlantic, the Canadian Arctic and other similar ecosystems internationally. CFER has built a dynamic team of research scientists and technical personnel with varying specialties and is now the largest university-based capture fisheries research group in Canada. To complement and extend existing research capabilities, CFER is seeking scientists that have expertise in one or several of the following fields:
- Biological Oceanography (Marine Productivity)
- Marine Invertebrate Ecology (Commercial Species)
- Quantitative Fisheries Stock Assessment
- Coastal Ecology
Successful applicants will be required to develop a dynamic, internationally recognized and grant supported research program focusing largely on Atlantic or Arctic marine ecosystems, have excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to supervise graduate students. The ability to work collaboratively with industry, fish harvesters, academic colleagues, and government agencies is also important.
SALARY: Commensurate with Marine Institute’s Research Scientists’ Collective Agreement
