Ocean Career: CSA Ocean Sciences Project Data Analyst/Assistant Project Manager

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is a marine science and technical services consulting firm that provides a broad range of environmental, coastal, and oceanographic services in the US and internationally. We are seeking a Project Data Analyst (PDA) who will support the Programs Director in maintaining and improving Project Databases using CSA’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools.

The successful Project Data Analyst is proficient in data entry, quality control, management, and reporting. Knowledge of ERP schemas and report building is fundamental. A desire and ability to identify and fill knowledge gaps is important as is creativity and initiative.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Analyzing project performance, and building reports and developing analytics for Senior Management, Accounting, Project Managers, and Proposal Managers.
  • Serving as Deputy Project Manager on field and desktop ocean science projects assisting in aspects of the project life cycle depending on the needs of each project and each project manager (e.g., logistics, invoicing, analytics).
  • Supporting setup of new projects in the ERP system.
  • Entering and reviewing Change Order entries.
  • Conducting internal budget reviews of projects.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in either science, economics, business, administration, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree can be substituted with an associate degree or professional certification and two additional years of experience.
  • Ability to query databases for extracting data.
  • Experience in managing data and generating reports.
  • Knowledgeable of business methods including Accounts Payable/Receivable, and basics of project accounting.
  • Adept in Microsoft Office Suite components, particularly Excel and MSWord.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to periodically adapt to demanding timeframes and tight project deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to learn new software and reporting writing skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to build novel reports within ERP tools.
  • Knowledge of database systems such as MySQL, Oracle, Azure.
  • Technical communication skills to write technical documentation so others can use and/or interpret outputs independently.
  • Advanced skills in Excel or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to create static and interactive dashboards and reports that communicate insights to different levels of financial analysis capabilities, using tools like Acumatica, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or Microsoft Word.

Applicants must possess current, long-term authorization to work in the United States; CSA is unable to initiate visa sponsorship.

Applicants must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time and also be able to lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
