Ocean Career: CSA Ocean Sciences Project Manager

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is a marine science and technical services consulting firm that provides a broad range of environmental, coastal, and oceanographic services in the US and internationally.

We are seeking an experienced professional to support the Programs group as a Project Manager (PM). Applicants should be ready to engage in an extremely fast-paced, applied science company in the private sector.

The successful applicant will be involved in supporting a wide range of CSA projects including (but not limited to) desktop and field projects occurring both domestically and internationally. The candidate will help serve as a bridge between accounting, operations, science, document production, GIS and HSSE departments as well as the various CSA market sectors and services. An understanding of business accounting, billing and field logistics is recommended. Exposure to marine science would be extremely useful. The successful candidate will have experience and strong skills in developing and overseeing work plans and project budget management. The project manager will also prepare and present updates regularly to the project’s subject matter experts (SME; i.e., scientists and/or operations managers) to collaborate in executing the work. This position will be located at the Stuart, FL office; periodic travel is expected in this position.

Objectives of this role

  • Support the project team to ensure maximum performance, by providing budgetary status, strategy, and forecasting.
  • Lead projects from requirements definition through deployment, identifying schedules, scopes, budget estimations, and implementation plans, including risk mitigation in collaboration with the SME performing the work
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Analyze project status and, when necessary, make recommendations for scope revision, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met, and
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant client stakeholders, providing day-to-day contact on project status and changes.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain processes for managing scope during the project lifecycle, setting quality and performance standards, and assessing risks
  • Structure and manage integrated, multitrack performance databases for corporate management and consultant with project SME
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with third-party resources, including vendors and contractors
  • Coordinate with science and operations leadership to secure resources to ensure project efficiency and maximize deliverables
  • Report project outcomes and/or risks to the appropriate management channels and escalate issues, as necessary, according to project work plan
  • Contributing to the maintenance of positive client interactions
  • Adhering to company standards and procedures for science, quality and health, safety, security and the environment
  • Being accountable and responsible for personal safety and safety of others;
  • Attending safety meetings and satisfactorily completing all assigned training as applicable
  • Accepting other duties as assigned

Required skills and qualifications

  • Four or more years of project management experience
  • Experience in applying web technologies and software platforms for maximum usability
  • Strong attention to deadlines and budgetary guidelines
  • Proven success working with all levels of management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team completing objectives on time, within budget, while meeting high quality standards
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and standard Microsoft software packages including word processing skills.

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Professional certification such as PMP or PRINCE2
  • Experience in developing platforms for internal processes
  • Experience in coaching project team members to strengthen their abilities and skill sets
  • Advanced skill and demonstrated experience using Microsoft Excel, database applications and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems including experience generating reports, inquiries, forms, and widgets in ERP systems
  • Experience insuring and shipping large expensive items internationally
  • Project Management Professional certification
  • Experience with and understanding of business legal contracts and,
  • Experience applying for and administering State and/or Federal government funding contracts.
