Ocean Career: Global Seafood Alliance Certification Specialist

The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) is an international, nonprofit trade association dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices through education, advocacy and third-party assurances. Through the development of its Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and Best Seafood Practices (BSP) certification programs, GSA has become the leading provider of assurances for seafood globally. The organization’s work addresses the full spectrum of responsibility, including environmental responsibility, social accountability, and food safety.

Their recent expansion has created an opportunity to add Certification Specialists to the Operations team.

In this customer facing role, the Certification Specialist is responsible for stewarding customers through completing the certification and recertification process by providing guidance and administrative support to new and existing facilities worldwide.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Partner cross-departmentally with key stake holders such as Finance, Certification Body Management (CBM), Program Integrity (PI), Market Development (MD), and Information Technology (IT) to ensure that all KPI’s in the certification/recertification process are properly met.
  • Receive, review, and archive all information, documents, and data from facilities as received throughout the certification process.
  • Collect and verify for accuracy all documents and certificates related to the certification/recertification process to validate pertinent information.
  • Assist customers daily by responding to inquiries regarding standards and certification/recertification process, while providing exceptional customer service to all through multiple communication platforms.
  • Provide support to the quoting and billing process.
  • Review and approve applications while working closely with the Certification Body Management team to ensure timely and accurate allocation of audit requests to auditing bodies.
  • Communicate with the Certification Body on any facility questions.
  • Communicate with the Market Development team and country coordinators globally to assist in onboarding new facilities and support existing customers.
  • Generate & manage various Operations related reports related to the certification and recertification process activity for assigned territory or by business-type.
  • Attend various meetings with internal/external customers to drive continuous improvements.
  • Attend trainings for educational and business purposes and participate in approved travel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Marine Affairs, or other biological science preferred.
  • Two to four years of customer facing experience in fishery management, vessel monitoring, or observation preferred.
  • In field commercial fishing & vessel industry experience is desired but not required.
  • High level of attention to accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Products, Adobe, and database systems.
  • Exemplary customer service and team focus. Sensitivity to working with multiple cultures.
  • Attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and multitask, and to work well independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required for role.

Compensation: $21.63 - $22.50 per hour
