Ocean Career: Marine Ecologist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science

This broad role will see you assisting delivery of all aspects of science from business development, through to practical science skills (field work planning, field work delivery), science delivery (statistical & video analysis, GIS reporting) and project management, ensuring delivery of a diverse portfolio of research that spans both program 3 science teams and other programs where needed.

You will help coordinate AIMS-wide BRUV and ROV fish monitoring capabilities, contributing to the collection, analysis and interpretation of benthic, fish and megafauna data to deliver to high profile projects and AIMS 2025 strategy targets. An expert in your field, you will provide a high level of support for field operations, ensuring effective pre-trip planning, data collection and post-processing to assess of the status of fauna populations in conjunction with research scientists.

About you

Your PhD in Marine Science or related field, coupled with your expertise in multivariate data analysis, high-quality figure preparation and scientific report writing are essential to your success in this role. You will draw on your experience conducting field surveys and working with BRUVs, ROVs, UVC, acoustic telemetry, and towed video equipment to conduct field-based research. And you will be known for your expertise investigating anthropogenic impacts on marine fauna and the drivers of distributions of fish and shark species.

Previous experience operating small boats, deck work on larger vessels and SCUBA diving operations would be highly desirable.
