Ocean Career: Marine Research Associate at Rhode Island Sea Grant

Perform research and extension of an advanced and often independent nature for Coastal Resources Center (CRC) and RI Sea Grant’s (CRC/RISG) US field office. Provide administrative and limited technical support to CRC/RI Sea Grant’s offshore wind energy, aquaculture, and coastal resilience portfolios.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist principal investigator(s) in the organization of international trainings, workshops, study tours, and meetings on issues related to offshore wind energy, aquaculture, and coastal resilience.
  • Assist principal investigator(s) in the creation of social media products (story maps, film, web sites, and podcasts) with the purpose of communicating science and coastal management related information to project stakeholders.
  • Develop proposals, technical reports, and professional articles.
  • Instruct and supervise graduate students and others.
  • Perform routine budget and administrative responsibilities for specific projects and/or programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in environmental science and management, marine affairs, natural resource policy or related field.
  • Minimum two years professional experience in media management, training or workshop organization, and/or, event management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aquaculture, coastal resilience, and offshore wind energy topics.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing social media products (i.e., web sites, story maps, podcasts, and film on marine or environmental topics).
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
  • Must provide own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and engagement in coastal policy, management, and science communication about offshore wind energy, aquaculture, and coastal resilience.
  • Certification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or Science Writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player.

Pay Grade Range: $51,780 - $78,203
