Ocean Career: NOC Research Systems Analyst

This post is to work within the Research IT team, whose mission is to ensure that researchers and engineers at NOC be provided with access to IT capabilities that enable world-class ocean science, now and into the future. You will be involved with talking to NOC staff, gathering requirements, researching and setting up new systems. These systems will need to be thoroughly documented for both technical and non-technical staff.

NOC’s Research IT facilities presently include a High Performance Computing cluster, a parallel file system, a number of powerful compute servers and a VMWare cluster. An important part of the role will be helping NOC staff make the best use of current systems while liaising with the IT Infrastructure team for support and suggesting improvements/upgrades.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced administrator with strong Linux skills. You will be comfortable working with customers to gather information and ensure you understand their requirements.

You will have previously worked on investigating new systems or technologies and writing documentation, and have experience of providing training to technical and non-technical staff.

Location

This position can be based in Southampton or Liverpool. Our Southampton site is well connected by public transport and has ample cycle parking in addition to free onsite car-parking. The Liverpool center is part of the University campus and is only a short walk from the city center and Lime Street station.
