Ocean Career: Ocean Associates Inc. Global Navigation Satellite System Analyst

Ocean Associates Inc. (OAI) seeks a full-time Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Data Analyst to support National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) in Silver Spring, MD.

CO-OPS is the authoritative source for accurate, reliable, and timely tides, water levels, currents, and other coastal oceanographic and meteorological information. Key Responsibilities:

Process, analyze, and interpret data from cGNSS systems following established CO-OPS procedures. Input metadata from GNSS systems into engineering databases and ensure consistency throughout the CO-OPS system. Work with technical experts to develop, maintain, and improve GNSS software, hardware, and data processes. Specific task requirements may include, but are not limited to:

  • Gather data and metadata requirements for planned GNSS systems.
  • Analyze data from GNSS systems for inclusion into CO-OPS Products and Services.
  • Update existing SOPs to reflect best practices for hardware and software of GNSS systems.
  • Occasionally assist in engineering requirements of water level and current measurement systems.

Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in oceanography, meteorology, hydrology, physics, physical science, geophysics, civil engineering, or a closely related discipline and four years of relevant experience. A Doctor of Philosophy degree in an aforementioned field may substitute for the Master's degree and four years of experience.
  • Knowledge of oceanographic principles, theories, and practices sufficient to review and analyze data is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of GNSS is required.
  • Must be proficient in using the Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft Office applications, and Google’s Collaboration Suite (e.g., Docs, Sheets, and Slides) for analyzing data and developing and editing documents and presentations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team, are required.
  • General database and query experience and a working knowledge of MATLAB, Python, and/or ArcGIS may be required depending on what task(s) the position supports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and collaboratively in a team/group setting.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and implement appropriate action.

Preferred:

  • Ability to work on-site in Silver Spring, MD one to two days per week.

Location: Telecommute/Remote

Start Date: as soon as possible

Salary: This is a full-time position. Wage range is $35.62 to $40.62 per hour. Overtime is not anticipated. Comprehensive benefits package.
