Ocean Career: Oceaneering Staff RMA Systems Engineer

Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) performs a wide range of engineering services and products for unique marine systems for military and commercial customers. OTECH innovates wherever practical rather than inventing making it “faster to field” than others in its industry; the typical development/delivery cycle for complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical systems is often completed in 12-15 months.

Technical capabilities span the entire engineering spectrum. These skills have been demonstrated in successfully delivered systems, including Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs); Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs); saturation diving systems; surface and sub-surface vehicle launch and recovery systems; advanced offshore cranes; and life support systems.

Position Summary

As a Staff Reliability Systems Engineer you would provide vital mission assurance support for Maritime underseas programs in engineering development as well as Operations and Maintenance (O&M) phases, under the direction of the Chief Systems Engineer and the Program Manager. The RMA Systems Engineer will be required to interact with other OTECH personnel and the client to guide engineering efforts to meet the client’s RMA requirements. The RMA (Reliability, Maintainability, Availability) Systems Engineer will provide guidance to engineering design efforts through the development of RMA modelling, block diagrams and statistical methods, and guide the supply support activities with RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Actions) analysis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interface with system and element design engineers to identify Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) shortfalls in system level analysis/design and subsystem level predictions as applicable
  • Perform reliability and maintainability predictions and allocations for equipment’s and systems using RMA software-based tools
  • Prepare system, element, and equipment R&M specifications from top-level requirements.
  • Interpret statistical data derived from failure reporting programs and reliability demonstrations.
  • Complete predictions and be able to discuss R&M areas of improvements with design engineers.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines to verify reliability and availability requirements for systems though analyses such as, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and limited life item analysis for system, sub-system, functional (electrical/mechanical), component and device level.
  • Demonstrates ability to devise innovative solutions to problems.
  • Prepares reports and presents results to management and client.
  • Provide quantitative reliability inputs to trade studies based on reliability theory, including the impacts of the selected technology, applied stresses, quality, redundancy, temperature, wear-out, and environmental impacts.
  • Some travel may be required.

Additional Functions as Directed

  • Generates user requirements, concept of operations documents, and assists in development of high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications.
  • Prepares concept of operations, interface control documents, hazard analysis, and test plans and procedures.
  • Displays excellent technical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to look at the “big picture” in system design at the same time as having focus on RMA data products.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Reliability, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of practical experience in RMA Engineering.
  • Experience with contributing to the development of sections of systems engineering documentation, including system engineering plans, requirements specifications, and interface control documents
  • Developing system requirements and derived requirements. assisting with the development of system requirements, functional requirements, and allocation of the same to individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components
  • Domain expertise with an RMA tool (Reliasoft, ITEM, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 Years of experience at the design engineering level
  • Candidate will have to perform in an ISO-9000 rated company in a rapidly changing and demanding atmosphere.
  • US citizenship required. Must be able to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance.
