Professor Widdicombe said: “Collaboration and information-sharing is, and always has been, key to advancing science and developing best-practice. We are proud, and delighted, to sign this Letter of Intent with our friends at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries today. Whilst we have worked alongside the organization on many issues across the years, this marks a new chapter for collaboration and the advancement of science. It is a valuable opportunity to learn from others in the sector, who are also developing world-class, cutting-edge research; thereby supporting our collective mission of a more sustainable ocean future.”

The letter of intent describes new cooperative activities, including:

  1. To organize joint scientific workshops, seminars and conferences
  2. To investigate the opportunity to carry out joint scientific projects, expeditions and other scientific activities
  3. To facilitate the possible exchange of experts and young scientists
  4. Foster reciprocal assistance for visiting staff, students and researchers
