BSEE Director Discusses Risk Management and Reliability at Texas Forum

During a panel discussion at Aramco’s “Deep Space Deep Ocean” Forum, BSEE Director Brian Salerno addressed how safety culture and risk management is a shared responsibility among operators and regulators. The April 2015 conference was held in The Woodlands, TX and focused on the analysis of shared operational challenges between the space and energy industries and opportunities to address them through technology collaboration.

In noting safety and risk reduction measures that have been instituted since the 2010 Gulf of Mexico spill, including new regulations, technical standards, and a focus on safety culture, Salerno noted that operators are ultimately responsible for creating a safety-focused mindset.

Salerno’s remarks also touched on how industry and regulators can reduce risks, including through risk-based inspections, collaboration on emerging technology to consider safety implications early on, and information sharing through secure channels. For more information, visit here.
