The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recently announced the selection of the University of Houston and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi to establish Centers of Excellence in the state. The RESTORE Act requires that the Gulf Coast states establish the centers to conduct research on the Gulf Coast region.
The UH-led consortium will focus on improving sustainable and safe offshore energy development, while the A&M-led consortium will focus on coast/delta sustainability, restoration, and protection; coastal fisheries/wildlife ecosystem research and monitoring; offshore energy development, including research and technology to improve sustainable and safe offshore energy development and comprehensive observation, monitoring, and mapping; and sustainable and resilient growth and economic and commercial development.
